What’s the end?
Last week I read a very different kind of short story. Here it is in the abstract form. “She dressed up daily like a perfect Indian lady, with a bindi on the forehead & whatever accessories a married woman wears. She was extremely beautiful. A beautiful face but the smile of the face was lost somewhere. Daily she used to stand near the window waiting for her husband who had gone to Australia after marriage for making his career and from then there was no news. After a year they had got the news that he has got a very good job there. One day she saw an unknown man standing outside the window staring her. She was angry looking at the man but later got to know that the man was the son of Kaushalya aunty in the neighborhood & was her husband's childhood friend Shankar, who had left the city for business before her marriage & has returned today.
Shankar came to her house next day. Met with her in-laws and showed his discontent for his friend who had left his family in a state of despair. He talked to her also for sometime. He started coming to her house daily with one reason or the other & after few days proposed her for marriage.
She told about the proposal to her in-laws. The mother-in-law was red with anger & said her son will return one day. But the father-in-law was a sensible man, he said she can’t wait for a person who has not contacted her for five years & permitted her to marry Shankar. That night she was very disturbed about her future & it was very difficult for her to sleep. At last, she thought that it was a practical decision to marry Shankar. The next morning Kaushalaya aunty came to her house & was very excited. But the scene was different, she came with a news that Shankar has gone to Australia for business....."
The story ended on this note & asked the readers to complete it. I was amazed with the twists & turns in her life. What do you think can be the possible end of the story? Any ending from your point of view, feel free to write in comments.
